A CoffeePals alternative for Slack
CoffeeSlack does the coffee-chat part of what CoffeePals does — random 1:1 pairings inside Slack — and it is free for every team, with no card and no cap on how many people take part. CoffeePals is a much larger product than that, so this page starts with the cases where you should pick it.
We make CoffeeSlack, so we are not a neutral source. The CoffeePals figures below were read from their own pricing page on 22 September 2026 — check them yourself before deciding.
Where CoffeePals is the better choice
You are on Microsoft Teams
CoffeePals runs natively in both Microsoft Teams and Slack. We are Slack only, with nothing we can promise you about Teams. If half your company is on Teams, this decides it on its own.
You want ready-made programs
They ship 35+ program templates — onboarding buddies, mentorship, cross-department, a lottery with the leadership team — and that is how the product is sold. We give you pools, a rhythm and icebreakers you can replace, and you write the intent yourself.
You want matching to know who people are
Their paid tiers do cross-group and lottery matching, and the higher one adds advanced matching and AI summaries. We match on channel membership and on not repeating a recent pair. Nothing about interests, seniority or department.
Your people list lives in an HR system
They import your people from BambooHR, HiBob, Workday and Google Workspace. We read your Slack channels, and anyone not in Slack is invisible to us.
Procurement needs SSO and a security review
Their Enterprise tier has SSO through Microsoft Azure, a dedicated contact and a published path for security reviews. We have none of that, and no plan to claim otherwise.
You want a vendor other big companies already use
Their home page carries logos including Microsoft, IKEA, Red Bull and LinkedIn. CoffeeSlack is new and small, and you would be early.
What both of them do
Random 1:1 pairings in chat
CoffeePals
Matched inside a program you configure.
CoffeeSlack
Pairs everyone who opted in, matched within the channels you pick.
Rhythm
CoffeePals
Set per program.
CoffeeSlack
Weekly, every 2 weeks, monthly, or a custom nth-weekday window.
Conversation starters
CoffeePals
Built into the templates.
CoffeeSlack
Built in, and an admin can replace them with a list of their own.
Several groups at once
CoffeePals
Unlimited connection programs on the paid tiers; 1 on the free one.
CoffeeSlack
Independent pools, each with its own channel and its own history.
Getting a time on the calendar
CoffeePals
1-click scheduling integration, on the paid tiers.
CoffeeSlack
The introduction carries a link with a 30-minute slot filled in. Free, and it is the only calendar step we have — see the limits below.
Two real differences
We ask people to join, rather than enrolling them
Each person types /coffee to take part, and joining covers a calendar month. Nobody is paired without joining, and anyone can take themselves out of a round from the dashboard without asking an admin. Your first month will be smaller than your channel — that is the trade, and it buys you people who chose to be there.
We report whether the coffee happened
Every introduction carries three buttons — we met, not yet, we didn’t meet — and the dashboard turns those into a response rate for each round, beside how many people opened the calendar link. Pairs created is the number that was never in doubt; this is the one that tells you whether to carry on.
What we do not do
No availability lookup
The introduction carries a calendar link with a slot already filled in — the next working day at 14:00 in the recipient’s own time zone — and both people are expected to move it. Nothing reads either calendar to find a time they are both free.
Slack only
No Microsoft Teams, and no date we would ask you to plan around.
No program templates
One job: pair people for a chat. If you want an onboarding-buddy program configured for you, we do not have it.
No group size setting
We pair 2 people, plus one trio when the count is odd. No 3-to-8 option.
No interest or profile matching, and no HR system import
Channel membership is the whole input, and Slack is the whole source of people.
What each one costs
CoffeePals
A free Starter tier, then Pro from $49/mo on annual billing ($59 monthly) and Max from $79/mo annual ($99 monthly). Those are starting prices: both plans are banded on active users — their page defines one as someone enrolled in a program with their settings set to active — and the published bands run up to $2,279/mo for Pro and $3,649/mo for Max at 751 to 1,000 of them. Enterprise is custom and billed annually.
The free tier is where most teams meet the wall, and it is not only the seat count: up to 24 active users, 1 connection program, 1 Coffee Maker program, limited dashboard metrics, and no scheduling integration. Past the cap their page says it matches the first 24 people who joined and tells you that you have hit it.
CoffeeSlack
Free for every team right now — no card, no trial clock, and no cap on how many people take part. Every feature on this page is in it, including the calendar link and the did-you-meet reporting.
We publish what we intend to charge later rather than leaving you to guess: a flat price per company, not per person, so the bill does not grow every time someone joins a channel. The bands are on the pricing page and nothing is billable today.
Try it on one channel
Add CoffeeSlack, pick a channel and a rhythm, and tell your team to type /coffee. Nobody is paired until they join, so a first round costs your team nothing but the people who wanted one.
